It's a New Year!

Ross & me at the Canyon

It's been way too long since my last blog update. We've been tremendously busy since November, dealing with trying and wonderful news in a 2 month timespan. Ross's car was totalled before Thanksgiving, we discovered we're having a second baby, I've battled terrible morning sickness (which lasted all day at times), and Christmas and New Year's festivities were sprinkled in as well. God faithfully got us through it all with His grace and love, and we could not wait for our vacation together as a bit of a fresh start to the new year.

Ross ran the PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in Phoenix on Sunday (did a great job!), then Monday we were off to see the Grand Canyon. We left a sunny Phoenix when it was around 78 degrees, and as we drover nearer to the canyon, we noticed there was fresh snow on the ground. I forgot to research the weather in all of Arizona, so thought maybe this could be a fluke and it would be warmer when we reached our destination. It was not! Thankfully we at least had light jackets since we left home when it was cold!
Our daughter was being well cared for by her Mimi, so it was easy to relax on this trip and enjoy our time together. We always mail her postcards and bring goodies home for her (this year was a canteen and prickly pear cactus candy). We stayed in the Bright Angel Lodge right on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, and our cabin was only 15 steps from the actual rim. Snow and ice was everywhere and it was cold & windy, but the canyon was magnificent. Every vista gave a different view, and I was able to get to know my new(ish) camera a little better there. Ross was a little sheepish when we got near the edge because of the strong winds and iciness, but braved the walkways to get the best views.

Our last night there, we drove back to Phoenix and stayed in a nice resort. After freezing it was wonderful to end on a warm note, especially before coming back home to our wintry weather. The best part was sharing that time as a couple, eating some great food, and having a date night every night! I love my husband, and look forward to tagging along with him on the more interesting marathon trips! It's definitely a fun way to see our great country.

  1. OOOOOOHHHH! Congrats on the wee one!!! And your post made me a little sad. I lived in AZ for a couple of years when I was a teen...and I miss it sometimes. I loved it there...especially in the winter...well, in Phoenix, certainly not in the mountains!!! Sounds like you had a great time!!!

  2. Hi Jennifer! Sounds like you had a wonderful time in AZ. I love how you two find ways to get away and do something romantic. I've been to AZ twice and have never seen the Grand Canyon yet. GREAT pictures!

Lots of good luck with the new little one. That's going to be one very lucky baby!

I hope you are feeling better....

  3. Congrats! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Love your pics of the Grand Canyon - we went in 2004 and it was the best vacation. I love looking through our photo albums, although pictures, as gorgeous as they are, don't do it justice. I also remember how many stars you could see in the sky at night...so beautiful!
